Occasionally I see it brought up, and I couldn’t say why it bothered me. It’s talked about as if it’s a safety net. Oh, sure, people don’t know who you are when they see you- but that means that you don’t have to deal with the problems I get walking down the street.

Invisibility brings not only vulnerability but also, sometimes, profound loneliness and even hopelessness. It’s basically due to luck (with a little bit of teenage self-assurance as well) that I didn’t have to deal with the kind of relationship described above before I realized I was ace.
